★Nojima-style Oil & Water!★A color change of three cards!
★A collection of routines themed around "Red and Black"!
★Everything can be done with a regular deck!
★A word from Nobuyuki Nojima
This time, I have put together routines on the theme of "Red and Black."
For the first one, "Triple AKA," I went through a lot of trial and error to deliver
an even bigger impact right after the initial surprise.
It has served me well as a show opener and whenever I perform just a single trick.
Oil & Water is one of my all-time favorite plots.
I don't usually build routines starting from a plot,
but this one is the exception — I have created quite a few versions.
Here I'd like to share two of the methods closest to my best.
Both start with four cards of each color and genuinely separate,
so I think they will be easy to fit into your own routines.
I have also included a visual color change effect
as a climax to the Oil & Water.
In addition, there is an offbeat card location
using the Jokers.
Nothing would make me happier than if even one of these
finds its way into your repertoire.
◆For intermediate level and above!◆
◆Recommended for card magic lovers!◆
Transcript Summary
Running time: approx. 1 hour 21 minutes
This lecture video, themed around "Red and Black," features a card color change, Oil & Water, and a card location using the Jokers.
① Red/Black Gag + Color Change
It opens with a comic premise in which rubbing a black card turns it red, then develops into a genuine color change using the Albirez color change. The handling for altering the thickness of the packet without the audience noticing is carefully explained, including a one-handed break, the Double Lift, and using a break to disguise the card count (3 cards → 7 cards). Besides performing it as a standalone piece, you'll also learn how to segue into it naturally in the middle of other card tricks.
② Three-Phase Oil & Water
Four red and four black cards, mixed together, instantly separate — performed in three phases of increasing difficulty. Many fine techniques for presenting the effect cleanly are covered, such as the Elmsley Count, the Biddle Steal, a sleeve action used as misdirection, and the push-off. The third phase includes a climax using the Miracle Change, and each phase is designed so it can also be performed on its own.
③ Card Location with the Jokers
A routine in which a card memorized by a spectator is found through the visual presentation of two Jokers closing in on it. Explanations include a simultaneous two-card production using a Swing Cut combined with a Glide, and a control built entirely from Double Cuts. Keeping the techniques to a minimum makes the routine easy to learn.
④ Variations
As alternate versions of Oil & Water, you'll find a structure with one extra card that lets you "boldly spread the cards to show them," as well as a revised counting method using the Buckle Count. You can learn by comparing how the choice of technique changes both the look and the difficulty of the same effect.
Throughout, the focus is on practical routines combining fundamental card techniques (Double Lift, Double Cut, Elmsley Count, Biddle Move, Buckle Count, etc.), with explanations that go as far as the purpose behind each technique and how things look from the audience's perspective.
