A collection of original card magic overflowing with gimmick-driven ideas!

Only simple crafting required. Easy to make and ready to perform right away!

A collection of Nobuyuki Nojima's original card magic featuring eight captivating tricks.
This time the theme is "Handmade Card Magic," unfolding a world with a different flavor from the usual.
It's packed with fresh concepts and ideas! We hope you enjoy it.

Key Points!

"Handmade" could also be described as "crafting."
This time, before performing the magic, you'll do a little crafting work with your own hands.
That said, it's only card magic (!?), so it's nothing elaborate.
Just cutting and pasting cards—simple work that anyone can do.

Eight tricks are included and explained, and for two of them, a small amount of "material" is supplied as a bonus.
Everything else can be done with a regular deck.
Strictly speaking, please prepare one blue-backed and one red-backed Bicycle deck that you don't mind "sacrificing" for modification and crafting.
They don't need to be new—used decks are fine, and since you won't use every card, even incomplete decks will work surprisingly well.
(Note: when practicing and performing the magic, you will need one more ordinary regular deck.)

Except for one trick, all the crafting can be done with just scissors and adhesive tape (cellophane tape, mending tape, double-sided tape).
You probably have those at home, right?
Some tricks don't even need those... Every one of them can be completed within a few minutes (from a few seconds to about three minutes).
Even the one exception is no real hassle.
It just requires a ruler and cutter for cutting straight lines, plus drying time for the glue.
Even if you're "not good" at crafts, it's no problem at all.

"Craft magic" is a term that dates back to the era of Hakufu Hiraiwa, but what's here
hardly deserves to be called crafting—we almost owe Hiraiwa-sensei an apology.
Crafting is inherently fun, so our apologies to anyone expecting more serious, heavy-duty "crafting," but
this is light, easy crafting.
Don't think of it as a chore—give it a try. We're sure you'll enjoy it.

━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…

This is an attempt to do what can't be done with a regular deck alone.

It's not for card magicians who insist on "performing with only one regular deck," but
this collection was created by throwing off those methodological constraints, letting anything go, and
relying on gimmicks as far as necessary.
Its hallmark is that even wildly outrageous effects are overcome and actually achieved through the power of gimmicks.

Beyond the fun of the gimmick concepts and the cleverness of the methods,
the collection also features unique and entertaining pieces in terms of effect.
Many of the tricks also have strong visual impact.

Let's take a brief look at the appeal of each trick.

What's Inside?

■Flip Change
A card is inserted sideways between two Jokers and slowly pushed through...
Amazingly, it gradually emerges from the other side turned face-up.
When it's passed between the Jokers once more, it comes out changed into a different card.
A unique effect that magic enthusiasts will love, achieved with a surprisingly simple mechanism.

■Slip Through
A card passes right through the fold of another card that has been folded in half.
The fold is opened and shown to the spectator—it hasn't been cut at all.
A card-through-card penetration. A mini illusion performed with just two cards.

■Pair Dekiru
Eight cards are thoroughly mixed. They're then handed to the spectator, who mixes them thoroughly too.
Yet after a magic spell, four pairs appear neatly matched.
Since no gimmick appears to be used, it's genuinely baffling.
Further applications are also explained.

■Tube Change
A card is rolled into a tube.
You unroll it to show the inside, roll it up again, and give it a light shake... the color of the back design on the outside changes in an instant!
Then, when you unroll it to show the inside, the face of the card has changed too.
Already a big hit at Nojima's own lectures.
It's a trick with a story—even a famous overseas magician was hooked on it.

■Cardician's Nightmare
Three cards are removed from the deck, shown, and placed in the card case.
After a magic spell, they're taken out again...
The cards have shrunk and grown, becoming three cards of different sizes.
The patter is unique and the effect catches people off guard—full of surprise.
The card that grows actually ends up larger than the case.
(Includes a special sheet for crafting)

■Impromptu Haunted
The deck is placed on the table and lightly squared between the hands.
Then the deck starts moving on its own and cuts itself.
The card at the cut position is the spectator's card.
The so-called "Haunted Deck" effect.
This one's "crafting" differs a bit in concept from the other tricks—it can truly be done impromptu if you wish.

■Freezer
A spectator peeks at and remembers a card.
The deck is spread face-down, clearly showing that all the cards are face-down.
The deck is closed, and when spread again, for some reason a single card has a different back color.
Maybe that's the one... but when it's turned face-up, it's not the selected card.
With that card left reversed, the deck is closed, turned face-up, and spread again.
You look through the other cards, but somehow the selected card isn't there.
When the deck is spread face-down once more, the reversed card has changed into the spectator's card.
And when that card is removed from the spread... one more surprise awaits at the end.
Enjoy this astonishing multi-phase effect.
(Includes a trick card for crafting and a card for the climax)

■Surfing the Aces
The four Aces are inserted together, reversed, near "one end" of the deck.
The deck is spread on the table to confirm the four reversed cards, and then the spread is turned over...
Incredibly, one Ace has moved to the opposite end of the spread!
This repeats, with the Aces jumping one by one to the opposite end.
A quirky transposition effect unlike anything you've seen before.

Essentially, all of these are tricks never before released on video.

━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…

"Impromptu Haunted" is a bit of an exception.
First of all, it's not really about "making a gimmick" in the proper sense.
Rather than crafting, it's more like making a small on-the-spot modification to a regular card.
And the "gimmick" you make is close to a disposable, one-time-use item.

Likewise, with "Tube Change," the "crafting" is basically just "rolling a card into a tube,"
so in terms of materials, it's magic that can be done almost entirely with regular cards.
However, the cards will retain a curl, so the cards you use can't be returned to the original regular deck.
(As cards for "Tube Change," they can be used repeatedly, so they aren't consumables.)

For the other tricks, some cutting and pasting is required, but once made,
the gimmicks can be used indefinitely.
They aren't consumables, so there's no need to remake the gimmicks every time.

━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…

Both the crafting methods and the performance methods (routines) are covered in detail and explained clearly.
For about three of the tricks, variation routines are also introduced.

Among the tricks presented are several that were once considered for release
as standalone "products."
That's how highly we rate their "quality as works" of magic.

A new style: "Handmade" card magic.
We hope you enjoy it to the fullest.

Transcript Summary

Running time: approx. 1 hour 43 minutes

This is a collection of card magic built on the premise that you modify ordinary playing cards to handcraft your own gimmicks. The materials are limited to everyday items such as playing cards, scissors, double-sided tape, and rubber bands, and everything from how to make the gimmicks to the handling and performance tips is carefully explained.

① A card passed between the Jokers flips over and then changes into the selected card. Uses a simple gimmick made by trimming the edges of cards and joining them with double-sided tape.

② Using two cards, a card clipped by the other seems to teleport and fall right through. Applications with everyday items such as business cards and IC cards are also introduced.

③ Using cards tapered both lengthwise and widthwise, pairs of cards that have been mixed up end up matched. Includes a variation expanding from 8 to 16 cards, and references the work of Shinichi Arai.

④ "Tube Change," in which a card rolled into a tube changes color and design when shaken. Also includes applications using double-blank cards and a three-card stack for two changes.

⑤ A variation of Cardician's Nightmare that adds a climax using a jumbo card and a mini card. It applies Dai Vernon's Jumbo Surprise.

⑥ A card-through effect using an impromptu gimmick made by tearing the edge of a card, in which a card turns over by itself when you blow on it. Devised with reference to the work of Doug Edwards and Jamy Ian Swiss...
